Playing DivXs on Windows

Not being much of a video geek, I got tied in knots installing and searching for codecs to a view some DivX film. I did not like much some of sites used to publish, not so visually trustworthy.

I got a tip from Patrick though:

there are only three things you ever need to install to watch such kind of files (and they’re all on sourceforge ;-):

ffdshow: video(& most audio)…

audio:(ac3, you might want to increase the volume in the configuration menu):…

get rid of all the rest, it will only slow down your system.

This worked very well for me. The mplayerrc is particular nice: simple, but with many options. On exe only.
